Treasures & Religious Relics
Discoveries of Religious Significance Religious relics, such as Ark of the Covenant (containing the Tablets of Stone on which the Ten Commandments were inscribed) are expected to be found by Muslims in Antioch (very important city in Early Christianity, currently located in Turkey, but, historically, was part of Syria), Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee in Palestine), or in Rome / Vatican. Rabi'a bin Al-Farisi said: "An army from you go to Rome and conquer it. They will capture the jewlery of Jerusalem, the Ark of the Covenant, Holy Grail, the rod (of Moses), the garment of Adam. A young man will be ordered to handle these things and he will return them to Jerusalem." (Nuaim bin Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan)
Abi Qabil said: "If you conquer Rome, enter its Great Eastern Church from its eastern gate, then count 7 tiles (on the floor) and remove the eighth (tile). Underneath it are the rod of Moses, the (original) Gospel, the relics and jewlery of Jerusalem." (Nuaim bin Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan)
" Afterwards, the army of Mahdi (a.s.) will reach the Golden Church and take possession of the valuable treasures inside it. The Mahdi (a.s.) will take these and distribute them fairly and equitably among Muslims. The Mahdi (a.s.) will lay hands on the Sacred Box inside the Church that contains the iron-tipped stave (rod) of Prophet Jesus عليه السلام and the Rod of Prophet Moses عليه السلام. That Rod of Moses descended to Earth when the Prophet Adam عليه السلام was expelled from Paradise. The Roman emperor seized that Sacred Box from the Dome of the Rock Mosque (in Jerusalem) and took everything of value inside it and hid them in the Golden Church. Eventually, the Mahdi (a.s.) will take them from there once again." ("Death, Doomsday, the Hereafter and the Signs of the End Times", Bedir Publishing, p. 432-448)
This Great Eastern Church and the Golden Church could be:
(a) St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. It is built over of the Old Saint Peter's Basilica which was built on the orders of Emperor Constantine I. Its construction started in 326-333 period and took 30 years to complete. Constantine I is particularly revered by Eastern Orthodox Christians. He made Constantinople the capital of the Roman empire.
(b) Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome.It is the official ecclesiastical seat of the Bishop of Rome, who is the Pope. It is also known as ecumenical mother church . It is built on the remains of an older church which because of its splendor used to be known as the Golden Basilica, or
(c) Santa Prassede Basilica is a basilica with glorious Byzantine mosaics in the apse and filling a side chapel. Also here is a piece of the scourging column of Christ, brought from Constantinople in the Middle Ages, relics from the catacombs in the crypt. It is built on the remains of the 5th-century church of Santa Prassede which was one of the tituli, the first parish churches of Rome, and was known as Titulus Praxedis. The current church has two entrances: eastern and southern entrance.
The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم , said, "He is called the Mahdi because he will guide the people to a mountain in AsSham (Greater Syria) from which he will bring out the (original lost) Books of the Torah to refute the Jews. Under the command of the Mahdi, the Ark of the Covenant will be brought forth from the Lake Tiberias and will be placed in Jerusalem." ( Jalal-uddine AsSuyuti's Al-Urf Al-Wardi fi Akhbar Al-Mahdi, a part of Al-Hawi li Al-Fatawa) "The reason he is called the Mahdi (a.s.) is that he guides the way to a hidden thing. He will bring forth the Ark of the Covenant from a place known as Antioch." (Jalal-uddine AsSuyuti's Al-Urf Al-Wardi fi Akhbar Al-Mahdi, a part of Al-Hawi li Al-Fatawa) "He is called the Mahdi (a.s.) because he is the key to something nobody knows. He will bring forth the Ark of the Covenant from the Cave of Antioch." (Nuaim bin Hammad's book Kitab Al-Fitan) and (Ibn Hajar Haithami Al-Makki's book Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar) أخرج ابن ماجة (2779), وأبو نعيم (36) عن أبى هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال : لم يبق من الدنيا إلا يوم, لطوله الله حتى يملك رجل من أهل بيتي, يفتح القسطنطينية وجبل الديلم, [ ولو لم يبق إلا يوم لطول الله ذلك اليوم حتى يفتحها ]Abu Huraira narrated that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: "Even if but one single day remains in (the life of) the world, Allah the Great and Mighty will certainly prolong that day in order for one of my family to conquer the Mountain of Dailam (in Iran) and Constantinople." (Ibn Maja, Nuaim bin Hammad's Kiab Al-Fitan, Ibn Hajar Haithami Al-Makkis book Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi Alamat al-Mahdi al-Muntazar)
Tamin Ad-Dari said " I said, 'O Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم , I have never seen a Roman city like the city of Antioch ( in Turkey, but historically, is part of Syria) and I have never seen more rain than it has.' Whereupon the Messenger of Allah, صلى الله عليه وسلم , said: 'Yes, that is because the Torah, Rod of Moses, Tablets (of the Ten Commandments), and the Table of Solomon, the son of David, (made of gold and ornamented with precious jewels, emeralds, pearls and rubies) are in its caves. There is not a single cloud that comes from any direction to it that does not pour its blessing in that valley. And the days and night will not pass until a man from my musked children live in it. His name is like my name and his father's name is like my father's name; his manners are like my manners. He will fill the world with fairness and justice just as it had been filled by harm and transgressions'." (Ibn Hibban's book Ad-Dua'fa and Shaykh Abdullah bin Sadek, Grand Muhaddith of Morocco, 's book Al-Mahdi, Jesus and Dajjal)
Ka'b Al-Ahbar says "He will be called 'Mahdi" because he will guide (yahdi) to something hidden and will bring out the Torah and Gospel from a land called Antioch (in Turkey, but historically part of Syria)." (Izzat and Arif, p. 40; Jalal-uddine AsSuyuti's Al-Urf Al-Wardi fi Akhbar Al-Mahdi, a part of Al-Hawi li Al-Fatawa) أخرج ( ك ) أيضا (1022) عن كعب قال: المهدي يبعث بقتال الروم, يعطي فقه عشرة, يستخرج تابوت السكينة من غار بأنطاكية , [ فيه التوارة التي أنزل الله تعالى على موسى , والإنجيل الذي أنزل الله عز وجل على عيسى , يحكم بين أهل التوراة بتوراتهم , وبين أهل الإنجيل بإنجيلهم ] Ka'b said: "The Mahdi ... excavates Tabout Al-Sakina (Ark of Covenant) from a cave in Antioch (in it, will be the Torah that Allah (t) revealed to Moses and the Gospel that Allah (t) revealed to Jesus..." (Nuaim bin Hammad's Kitab Al-Fitan)
أخرج ( ك ) أيضا (1050) عن سليمان بن عيسى قال: بلغني أنه على يدي المهدي يظهر تابوت السكينة من بحيرة طبرية, حتى يحمل فيوضع بين يديه ببيت المقدس, فإذا نظرت إليه اليهود أسلمت, إلا قليلا منهم [ ثم يموت المهدي ] Sulaiman bin Issa said: "At the hands of the Mahdi, Tabout Al-Sakina (Ark of Covenant) gets excavated from Lake Tiberias (in Palestine) and is carried and placed between his hands (meaning in front of the Mahdi) in Bayt Al-Maqdis (Jerusalem). Once the Jews see it, they will become Muslims, except few of them. Then, the Mahdi will die." (Nuaim bin Hammad's Kitab Al-Fitan)
He is called the Mahdi because he will be guided to a mountain in AshSham (Greater Syria) from which he will bring forth some of Books of the Torah to use them when he argues with the Jews. So, under his hands, a group of the Jews will become Muslim. (Imam Abu Amru Uthman bin Saeed Ad-Dani's Kitab Al-Sunan Al-Waredah fi al-Fitan)
Some scholars, particularly the Shia, believe the Mahdi will be supported by God the same way God did with David according to in Sura Al-Baqara, verse 248 in the Quran. In other words, God will enable the Mahdi to bring forth the Ark of the Covenant and the remaining relics of Moses and Aaron, to prove, particularly to the Jews, that he is the Mahdi, a leader chosen by God. It is worth noting that Jews are waiting for Elijah to return, whom they consider as a harbinger of the Messiah. So, some Jews may regard the Mahdi as a fulfilment of Elijah. Thus, the Mahdi may be able to lead some of the Jews to Islam.

Shafi bin Obaid Al-Asbahi said: "For Alexandria (city in Egypt), there are two battles. One of them is big and the other is small. In the big one, the sea will recede away from the Light-House by one or two Barids (possibly 2 miles), then the treasures of Zu Al-Qarnain will appear. The sign of the small battle will be that Alexandria will have blood spilling." (Nuaim bin Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan)
Ka'b said: "Twelve kings of the non-Arab kings will participate in the Big War. The youngest among them and has the least troops will be the chief of the Romans. In Yemen, for Allah (t), there are two treasures. One of them was brought forth on the day of Yarmouk Battle (against the Romans in 636 AD) when the Azd tribe was one third of people. The second treasure will be brought forth after the Big War (with the Romans at the End of Time) by seventy thousand sword carrying (Muslim) fighters." (Nuaim bin Hammad's Kitab al-Fitan)
